If you look at the history...

...of communist rule in Russia, you will recognize many different periods. There were even periods when people were allowed to travel nearly freely, and when they were put in jail for such ideas. There were periods of starvation, and then period of free enterprise, ruthless purges and then some thaw.

But times are changing, and with them the specifics of the rule. What remains constant, however, are two things: the authoritarian rule by the communists, and the slavish attitude of their populous.

I might surprise you - I do not see the elections as fake. The majority of people there are idiots, and they did voluntarily vote for this new Joseph II king. He is giving what they want ("Powerful" Russia) while destroying all the opposition, and they just love it. They loved the annexation of Crimea, and they would love much more - much like the USSR did in the thirties, when they kept grabbing territories, and, together with Hitler, started WWII.

I could tell you so much more, but this is film forum. Unfortunately, aliens and blood and gore are far more exciting to many than history.
