'The Sisters Brothers': Unusual and Compelling . . .

Posted by Billy Wonka on October 21, 2018 at 11:24:19:

The always fussing Sisters Brothers were killers for the Commodore who had been assigned to run down and kill a man who held a gold prospecting invention. Eli (Reilly) was the sane and nearly sober brother watching out for Charlie (Phonenix) the aggressive drunk who enjoyed their killer reputation. The Commodore (Hauer) had assigned a scout (Gyllenhaal) to follow and deliver Warm (Ahmed) to the brothers for killing.

This film is rich with character development, sly humor, gun fighting, greed, and Eli's struggle to leave their life of crime. Karol Kane appears as their mom in a very touching, bittersweet ending.

Even though this story is chock full of the classic Western hallmarks, I still felt this was an unusual and off-beat film.

4 wonks for acting, production values, and story
1 wank for pacing and unusual feel
