Apple doesn't always take the more predictable routes: Rather than promoting home theater computers, for intance, they came out with AppleTV.
Meanwhile, it's not obvious to me what "wow" factor would be enhanced simply by cramming a Blu-Ray drive into an iMac: Is 1080p going to look so much better on a 20-24" screen that people will pay an extra $500? I think the cost/perceived-benefit thing isn't terrific yet. Mac Pro towers have dual bays for optical drives, and Blu-Ray as a build-to-order item would make some sense, though the current lack of HDMI on Apple's video cards and monitors would mean the darned things wouldn't actually play off-the-shelf movies.
