One of the metrics the studios are looking at are sales of Standalone players.

And I suspect they (particularly Warner's) are taking a close look at Toshiba HD-A2/A3 sales. Strolling through BB and looking at A3s at half the price of the cheapest Blu-ray players makes me wonder how big an impact cheap 1080i hardware is making on Blu-ray's alleged HD dominance.
