Wasn't that in late December? No changes noticed after that update and I don't recall anyone reporting upscaling changes after v2.17 (several weeks ago). If you read some of the posts in the linked thread, others -- who had already been using the PS3 for scaling duties -- also reported that there was a change in the image after v2.20 was installed.

Perhaps only select upscaled resolutions were "upgraded"?
