If all you want to do is to transfer VHS to DVD, you might want to look at the Toshiba D-R400. You can pick them up new for @ $100. If you need a VHS player I'd go down to your local Goodwill store and pick up a nice looking one - transfer your tapes to DVD w/it and then donate it back to the Goodwill.
