I just changed the lamp on my SXRD...

Hi Jack,

For my first lamp replacement I decided to buy the SONY part for my set. It cost $250. I wish I would have taken it out and looked at it before buying because it looks as though it would be a really easy job to just buy the bulb and replace it. That is what I intend to do next time. In my on-line research I easily found several vendors who sell the exact Philips bulb used by SONY for prices $99 - $135. Unfortunately I didn't bookmark them, but like I said there are quite a few vendors. One even will do the swap for free if you send 'em the assembly. My suggestion to everybody is to start with your set's lamp assembly, ID the lamp, and then buy and install it yourself. Saves many $$.

Cheers, Joe

PS BTW -- after I started getting the TV message to replace the lamp soon I of course waited a couple of months. Worked out okay I guess but man-O-man what an increased quality picture with that new bulb. Wow!!
