lpcm or bitstream for bluray?

I own a ps3 and have a Cary Cinema 11a on order which has hdmi 1.3. I know the ps3 will decode hd audio internally and send it out as lpcm. Is the ps3 sending an anolog or digital signal? Where is the actual d/a conversion taking place? Is there any advantage to having a player that outputs bitstream?
