HDTV/ATSC tuners, will cable work?

Posted by manfred88 on January 31, 2009 at 21:01:41:

This has probably been discussed already, but I couldn't find the exact answer I need. I recently bought a Sony Bravia HDTV, it is connected to Comcast(the basic sevice at $14 a month). I am getting a ton of channels, much more than before. The problem is I have an older Pioneer DVD recorder with hard drive that has an analog tuner, so it won't get all the channels that the TV gets. Will one of these HDTV/ATSC tuners,( like Samsung among others,) work to get the channels that the TV gets when connected to the cable and connected to the Pioneer DVD recorder? I guess I could spring for a new DVD recorder with an ATSC tuner.

Thanks for any help.
