Maybe they're still mulling over whether to resist the BD consortium and unlock it for standard redbook DVDs, ...

Considering the current economics and direct sale marketing strategy that Oppo employs adding bang-for-buck versatility probably does factor into their decision on how to compete with the BIG boys.
Note: Blu-Ray Zone-locking is far less important than DVD region locking since Zone locking is decided on a case by case basis by the right's holder at the manufacturing end. So far it hasn't impacted many import BD titles.
