Things to consider are how many sets you will feed. Splitting the signal in 2 won't cause that much loss but if you're going to take that lead and feed 8 it is a different story. Use RG6 from the antenna throughout. They make distribution amps that are not expensive to compensate for lots of splits and those could be of differing quality. If you're only going to feed a few sets an antenna with a small bit of additional gain is not bad. If you have too much gain you can always get an inline attenuator.
