Cheap Blu-ray players: $$ vs. Quality...

As some "brand" name players dip below the 200$ barrier(Phillips, Magnavox, etc)should these players be avoided if one wants to test the waters on the cheap or just invest a few more bucks and purchase a decent Sony? I don't want to buy something thats going to go bellyup after a couple of weeks!
