Are you sure it's not just a mode/setting?

Buddy's HD Sony 64" does the same thing and he often doesn't notice until I jab him about it. "Hey, fill the screen". "Oh yeah". It's already small enough as it is. :)
My PJ also has setting choices which I've set as my "optional" key on the remote. It swaps between 16:9, 4:3 and another one or two choices.
Just a thought, I might be totally wrong here.
