From your initial post, you are looking to incorporate DVD playback in your system -- but, not surround/multi-channel playback. Correct?

You've tried hooking up a DVD player to your JR pre-amp and found that, although you can do it, dialogue is overshadowed by the effects. Correct?

What you need is a DVD player with a Dialogue Enhancement mode. What a player with this feature does is give you the perception that the dialogue has been boosted so that it is more intelligible -- even when output as stereo/2-channel audio from the DVD player.
