For those of you who were/are interested in the "new" (I put "new" in quotes because it was in beta longer than MS puts their friggin' OSs in beta!) oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray player, it can now be made to play DVDs and Blu-rays from all regions via a hardware mod (the firmware mod is practically worthless as each firmware update brings the possibility that the hack will be disabled). The mod consists of changing out a ribbon cable inside the player.

The above is for info only: I'm not pimping the oppo and eventually I'll get my 983 on Videogon or ebay. My next Blu-ray player will be a digital-only player. Until then, the PS3 continues to rock the house!
