Sony KW-34HD1

Posted by tesla on October 9, 2009 at 09:32:59:

I own one of these first gen Sony HD sets, and I have had good service with it since '99. However, I now have two problems with it, one I can live with, one that is not so easy.

First, the set no longer recieves any on-air tv signal, but works fine on dvd, etc. I traced the antenna input, (yes, I use an antenna) and it works. The TV has a seperate converter/tuner box. When the box is working, you can see 2 led's lit up inside. Box went dead, I can tell, the leds are no longer lit. I took the unit apart, and it seems the seperate power supply board has problems. (I traced AC power to the supply, it has it, no blown fuses, and some parts of the power supply have DC power, but not others.) There are no obvious problem, no burned traces, etc, but I really can't easily go any further without a schematic. I have looked on-line, no obvious sources of parts or schematics. (Yes, I know I can take it in to a tv repair facility.) Anyone have any sources?

2nd,

It has a strange problem that I am sure is a bad PCB, I get transparent vertical bars extending from top to bottom across the screen, but only is standard 4:3 mode. Hi def mode is fine.

I honestly am not holding out a lot of hope that anyone here has the knowledge or expertise to assist me in this, but I can hope :) Thanks for reading.

BTW, No, I am not going to consider a new tv.

Regards,

Gene
