If I want the recording to last (10 years or more), have the highest quality and experience the least amount of problems, then I use Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim (Mitsubishi Chemical). These run from 28 - 34 cents a single-layer disc in the 100 packs.
When I want to just record a show to watch later on, maybe view another time or two or give away, I use the cheap off-brand stuff (you know, the ones that are 15 - 17 cents a single-layer disc in the 100 packs).
