On Screen Display (OSD) issue with Rotel

Having got a Pioneer Kuro KRP-500A recently, I hooked up the Pioneer DVD player (DV-LX50) HDMI out directly to the TV tuner box without sending the video through my Rotel processor (RSP-1068) which doesn't have HDMI terminals. The digital audio still goes from the DVD player to the processor. However, I am now unable to get the OSD menu of the Rotel processor after trying its monitor as well as video outputs connected separately to another AV channel of the TV. Is this because no video inputs are connected to the processor? Any ideas, please?
