Resume problem

The inability to resume playback on Blu-Ray discs is caused by the design of Blu=Ray discs and not the player itself. My BD player (Pioneer 320, discontinued) only gained that feature with the latest firmware update, and I haven't heard of other players that have that feature.

On the other hand, if the Sony player doesn't "resume" with DVD's--that would be very unusual for a DVD player.
