CJ/Lex/Theta upgrade possibilities

Posted by Sturmey on February 15, 2011 at 21:05:42:

Hi folks. I'm running a CJ Premier 17 LSII tubed preamp sourced from:

1) an old Lexicon DC1 SS controller for front L&R passthrough
2) an old AMC tubed DAC (sweet!)with matching AMC CD player
3) An ASL tubed phono preamp
4) a MF V-Dac (from Squeezbox
5) a Squeezebox Duet (analogue outs-modified)
6) a Samsung Blu-ray player

The CJ is worth lots of bucks still, and I'm thinking that maybe I can get a new SS controller to replace the Lexicon for Blu-ray high-def music and video, and replace as well the CJ Pre for a net superior multichannel preamp that sounds as good or better than the CJ/Lex/etc. I'm also thinking that the V-Dac could be sold if the SS controller had a superior Dac built in. The amp is a Theta Dreadnaught, also worth lots of resale bucks, so perhaps there's an SS integrated unit that sounds as good as the Dreadnaught with seven channels of power (or more for bi-amping). It's a beast of a configuration, and I'm wondering if I could consolidate components, sell off some components, get better sound, and have some bucks left over. More modern state-of-the art, better price/performance ratio.

Any suggestions of what modern new or used SS controllers and/or integrated amps might do all that? I'm not really that happy with the CJ Theta combination as it is. Tone controls would be splendid, along with analog passthrough. Speakers are all Aerial Acoustics in 7.1. Thanks!
