The need for a really good analog performance is the biggie. I would suggest nothing less than the Classe SSP-800 prepro for excellent analog and digital performance. There are others but they (e.g., McIntosh, Meridian, Theta, etc.) are even pricier. I have written about some in my column, below.
Multichannel amps from Theta, Bryston, Classe, etc.
I do not know of a high-end AVR that will suffice but I have not investigated them.
