My Denon receiver died, and I need help finding a replacement

I have had much success posting on this fourm in the past, and look forward to some good advice on my current problem. I have a dedicated listening room that is 2 channel, but I need help is my much less elarorate home theatre. In the last 4 years I have gone through 2 receivers. First was a Yamaha, and the last one was a Denon AVR-590. Both times amplifier section just would click in and out and eventually stopped working completely. So I'm a little hesitant to just go out and buy a similar unit as I don't want to replace units every 2 years. Unfortunately my current receiver doesn't even have pre-outs for all channels so I can't even just use it as a preamp. My TV (LG 55LH40) has plenty of HDMI inputs so I'm not sure what would be the best choice. Here are some scenerios I am considering:

A) Buy a little bit more expensive receiver that had pre-amp outs so if this problem happens again I can just add an external amp.

B) Buy used higher quality older (non HDMI)receiver and use digital out on TV to receiver for sound.

C) Break down and buy a decent pre-amp (would love some recommendations, and a used amp.

D) get a cheap DA converter, and buy a used 2 channel amp & ditch my center channel

I only run a 3 channel set-up with a sub. Speakers are NHT 1.5's in the front and I don't remember model #'s of sub or center.

I have twin 2 year olds and am not flush with cash. Please give suggestion for cheaper mid-fi gear. Budget optimally would be $400, and would like to keep it sub a thousand if I can. Since I'm confused and have choices all over the map, I hope you guys can help me figure out the best course to take.
