Not sure why you got such poor picture quality but you can set the picture quality to 3 different levels to conserve bandwidth if needed. I have ours set to the highest quality and if the movie is in HD it looks just as good as playing a blu-ray disc on our 55" TV. I am very, very pleased with the Netflix streaming quality.
