A little speaker help

I want to ask for 2 tower speakers to complete my home theater for Christmas. My wife is great if I hint that I want it she will get it for me, but her eye for quality is no where near mine. I understand that it's the thought that counts, but let's be honest if I never hook them up she will get suspicious. Soooo any advise would be greatly welcomed.

I was looking at the Polk TSX550T but I read that the subs would be turned off since I have a separate sub and it would be a waste of money. Please help me out. Thanks
