Best movie I've seen in a couple of years. Yup, it's that rare thing - a 'grown up' movie. Performances from Renner and Olsen are outstanding.
Good story (murder mystery in Wyoming) and great photography.
I almost passed this by thinking it was going to be just another 'just ok' movie. Glad I reconsidered.

Follow Ups:
Never got anyone's input. It has been quite some time since I saw the film. I wondered what the Indian officer saw or felt that made him initially refuse to stand down during the confrontation with the construction crew. Any comments?
Sawtr it twice at the talkie
Excellent film. Same screenwriter as Scicerio which I also think is very good.
I loved it.
Hope they get back on the right track with tres.

But had had enough of that snivelly meally mouthed woman by the end of the first.
Del Toro magnifico!
Brolin almost magnifico!

I like the tension and focus of both. I suspect a 3rd is in the works.
but I'll reference G-Father. Ugh. What was with the buzz cut, anyhow?
and since I'm already damn cold, I'll know what to expect!

A murder takes place at the cultural intersection of Wind River Indian Reservation life (Shoshone-Arapahoe) in Wyoming, and the coexisting oil patch development. It's also an interface between Renner, a white guy tracking for the USFWS, his native kin, and a non-resident FBI agent (Olson).
Subtle and clever detective work by Renner and Olson pursuing the killers. The nuances of emotion are well acted; no cliches' about Native American culture
The movie feels tight, not wasting rhetoric or time, but also not rushed. A great film.
