Ralph Fiennes as the pacifist Orlando, Duke of Oxford. Story set as prequel to WW1, this is a prequel to two previous Kingsmen movies -- and directly to "Kingsman: The Secret Service" (2014). I watched a half hour's worth and couldn't hang in.
But wait, there's more.
Not obvious to me when watching, the story follows and riffs on actual events that precipitated WW1.
For that, you would have to read up on WW1 history, Archduke Ferdinand, Rasputin, Romanovs, etc. You can do that with the attached link/review (SPOILER ALERT), after which I think this movie would become a lot more involving. Interesting stuff. But worth more than $3.99?
The story is about "Writer-director David Hare's emotional journey of contracting COVID-19, chronicling the delirium of the illness amid the political landscape of the first UK lockdown, as well as his fraught path to recovery."
It was a one-man play in the UK's Bridge Theatre - made into a film
Beat the Devil (2021)
Not historical accuracy. Satyrical, you know. I was thoroughly amused by the pre-WW1 period which gave a lot of room for pomp and costume.
I would have never known Rhys Ifans was Rasputin. But, his combat scene was a scream.
If you stayed long enough, you would have seen the Easter Egg where Lenin was introduced to Hitler. More to come.
We really dig Fiennes but even his presence couldn't make this bearable.
That they would inaccurately use historical facts to bolster the story didn't help.
Figure he makes enough $$$ doing crap like this so he can make, say, The Dig.
Dig?

Apparently, he made Maid in Manhattan and Red Dragon to help fund Cronenberg's Spider.
Generally, I hate it when really good actors waste their time with schlock. They can only make so many movies a year and when Fiennes wastes time in Bond films it's a missed opportunity in my view.
On the other hand - it is the mainstream movies that get the most eyeballs and have the highest paycheques. Michael Caine said he did Jaws: The Revenge to fund some house in Monte Carlo - lol. At least he's honest.
