Just saw this...since knew it was of interest to me, I read nothing of it, and went in blind. And I would recommend that as well, and will try to reveal no spoilers.
It starts as a fairly familiar type of indie movie, an assembly of quirky characters on a picturesque Irish island in 1923, bantering, saying "feck" all the time, playing wonderful Irish fiddle music in the picturesque pub by the picturesque ocean. And it is lightly comedic and entertaining. Light as a feather. Then it changes and becomes less light. That is all I want to say about that.
The two lead actors, Colin Farell and Brendan Gleeson, are in the end, the reason to see this. There are deep undercurrents in both of their characters. Way more inside both of them than what their words reveal. This is not an action packed thrill ride, it is a character study, so it's not for everyone. But it is quite interesting and meaty.
Follow Ups:
Fookin' Irish.
GREAT acting by all (no surprise) Farell was on, though sometimes he doesn't try very hard.
Don't know if I enjoyed it as much as appreciated it.

Mrs. McCormick was a real peach.
