Love my tv, but I'm thinking I'd be better off (less eyestrain) with a smaller set.

Have you made the move from bigger to smaller? Any thoughts on that?

...says my doctor. And I says to my doctor, "my driver's license says 68".

Small by most standards. I can enjoy both, though size does matter. I can stare at the 42 inch screen, but I have to move my head to scan the 50 inch. It's extra work, but for a movie, the effect is immersive and beneficial. Sometimes, I just like the zombie effect of the smaller screen, that I don't have to move at all to get it all in.

Our living room is around 17 1/2', and I sit at pretty much that full distance. If I could, there'd be an 80" to replace the 65" in there.
When we bought the 65", we moved the 50" to our bedroom. It's a perfect size for that room for our tastes.
IOW, if your viewing room is small, I get why you'd want smaller...

I'm maybe 10 feet from the tv. Yeah, if it was any less I'd definitely go 55 and if it was any more I'd stick with the 65. I'm in kind of a gray area.
