Does anyone else feel like we're becoming a nation of thumbsuckers? Blockbuster films now are almost all children's fables or cartoon characters. (OK, Private Ryan, exceptions do occur...). I want my Blade Runner, 2001, Alien, etc. You know, no cute little kids inserted in the film for no plot reason; no cute little dreamworks creatures, no schmaltzy music to cue my emotions, no adults acting like nervous teenagers as romantic scenes unfold, etc. If Spielberg made Jaws today, he'd have a young boy along on the boat for the last scenes.
