Happens in deep space? Nope, right here on the post-atomic blue marble. Intellectual? Well, compared to world of Mad Max, yes. Prolonged, static scenes filled with questioning dialogue? How about fast cuts, lots of gunfire, a new "firearms karate", and a shallow but entertaining concept delivered with a lot of up close and personal camera work?
Mr. Bale, the most severe guy on the screen, dutifully severeed his way through this one. Emily Watson needed more air time. And, "Blowup" Hemmings cameoed in one scene (damn, I'm that old?). I was really expecting the whole hoop of cheese to fly off the screen but was surprised to duck only a few sizeable chunks. The biggest hunk being the puppy licking Bale's face.
I am so delighted to go to film that I expect to hate for wasting my time and end up thinking, "Not bad for a bargain matinee."
