OK.... I went to the rental place, but they have added so much it was possible to spot the tape by its cover - they are all now sitting with their edges exposed, where used to be the fronts. I asked the guy there (the real movie snob) and he said it reminded him of something but he was not sure.

BTW - the actor in that film seems to be Patrick Bauchau or Michel Piccoli, from my memory, but I can be wrong.

For the easy movie - the second one was Atlantic City, where Burt Lancaster watches Susan Sarandon undress to the Casta Diva aria from Norma, sang by Elizabeth Harwood... not as good as Callas, but good nonetheless.

The common element between the two movies should be plainly obvious by now.
