"Quatermass & The Pit", a.k.a. "5,000,000 Years to Earth" - one of my favourite films!The Hammer Films movie (the one you've seen), is based on a 1957 BBC television 6-episode mini-series, also called "Quatermass & The Pit". Scripted by Nigel Kneale, this is also available (probably only PAL VHS format). The technical standard is poor by today's standards (it looks like old episodes of Dr Who), but the overall atmosphere is ominous & menacing & very well handled. The pacing is also very different, as it runs for about 195 minutes as compared to the movie's 90 minutes. If you are a fan of the movie it is well worth seeing it's television ancestor.
