I did rent the dvd version and it is full of lots of stuff (2 disc set). To be honest, I thought that the story was great (Will S. does it again) and the acting was very good but that Taymor is just too wed to the stage. It really was very "staged" in look and feel. Just a bit too pretty and pretentious for my liking. I agree, however, that Hopkins does a very nice job with it, and it was nice to see one of Shakespeare's more grim features brought to the screen (makes other plays brought to the screen seem downright "light and cheerful").

As for the dvd quality, it was a very good transfer. Pictures were sharp and crisp and looked very good (lots of dark and shadows so if you are using a LCD or DLP projector, you might be disappointed). Sound was good but nothing spectacular although the orchestral elements were very impressive at times.
