Arrrgh!

209.51.192.9

I've been "outted"! I confess that I own a laserdisc of "Sex and Zen." Of the Category III (equivalent to NC-17) Hong Kong films I've seen, it is the most entertaining (heck, it's got the voluptuous Amy Yip in it, and an unlucky horse), outclassing "Naked Killer" (sort of "La Femme Nikita" with lesbian attitude), "Chinese Erotic Ghost Story I" (there are four in the series), and "Robotrix." Other Category III's I haven't seen include "Sex and Zen 2," "Naked Killer 2: Raped By An Angel," "Chinese Torture Chamber," "The Girls From China," and "Pretty Woman" (gee, I wonder what this one's about?).

Japan also produces its share of sleaze. Take a look at "Zero Woman" (another "Nikita" clone). The budget is pretty low (it was shot on videotape), as are the artistic standards.

Victor, you started at the top. It's all downhill from here. Reminded me to pick up my raincoat from the dry cleaners.

If you want to see a beautiful, energetic, and just plain goofy HK movie without the sleaze, try to find a copy of Tsui Hark's "Green Snake" to rent. It is based on the legend of snake spirits taking human form and seducing humans, while an overzealous Buddhist monk tries to fight the nonhuman spirits by kicking transcendental ass.
