Ah, the weaknesses... these are many. Not a great film by any stretch or imagination. To state plainly - a woman's film, not in the best sense of the word. A horrendously weak and corny story, mixed with a simplistic agenda.
Then why bother? With names like Juliette Binoche, Daniel Auteuil and Emir Kusturica (who could forget "When Father Was Away on Business"?????????) you SHOULD bother.
You have actors who can act, for a change. Yeah, I khow... strange notion... But these three, and several others, can simply watch the paint dry - and you will be riveted.
So - great team, nice scenery (even though the jumpy, choppy camera work may not be your cup of tea...), beautiful, beautiful uniforms and costumes - all make for a rather emjoyable two longish hours. And if your popcorn is better than mine was - no more recommendation should be needed.
