Re: Just how much European decadence can you handle?

Victor,
give American Cinema credit; they do try. About once a Decade they get it half right. "Being There" was mildly amusing, but that was 20 years ago. Was there anything before or after that? Hmmm; Maybe "Rear Window" or "Rope" a few Decades before that. But hang on, Hitchcock was British, and so was Grace Kelly, and Peter Sellers. Come to think of it; even Chaplin was English, and America's other great comedian, Bob Hope, was born in England. Then DW Griffith was British too (Welsh); so that's "Birth of a Nation" and "Intolerance" out the window. Maybe something starring Lillian Gish, the Actress credited with having played the largest number of roles in Cimema ever; No, English again (related to Lady Di). OMIGOD, have I just discovered that without British imput there isn't a SINGLE salvageable film in all American history??.....
