Re: The Usual Suspects-Music score

I'd more or less agree with you regarding the comparison to an incidental and mood-setting score for a Mamet film (e.g. House of Games, Homicide, Heist) with the notable exception of The Spanish Prisoner. I think Carter Burwell's score is an integral part of that film.

The score to The Usual Suspects is unremarkable, albeit servicable, incidental music, and the only good parts are plagiarized from John Williams' "The Conspirators" from JFK. I can think of a thousand scores more worthy of a purchase than John Ottman's The Usual Suspects.

The movie, however, is quite good, albeit not as good as Mamet's The Spanish Prisoner. MGM is releasing a two disc SE in a couple months so I'd wait for that. The original DVD was non-anamorphic and had Dolby Surround.
