Re: "Groundhog Day"

rico,

I had a similar experience with "Groundhog Day"- it has many interesting subtlties in the way Murray's ascerbic, cynical character gradually evolves- and also that he doesn't realize why he is i.e. the prisoner of that one day- until he gets it right!

Would that we could have a situation when we could "practice" life properly awhile before being thrown into it!

I'm glad you mentioned McDowell, who could've sunk the whole ship in ths case. My reluctance at first with "GD" is that I think Andie McDowell just has no screen presence at all. Though she also has a bit of an evolution too that parallels Murray, gaining trust and becomong more open, she doesn't reveal enough and I ended up wondering why Murray pursues her other than gradual familiarity. As he gets to know everyone in the town, he had alternate choices.

Armchair casting: How about Jennifer Jason Leigh- someone with a little spark? And where has Minnie Driver been? She could've used her "Gross Pointe Blank" style..

But "GD" is a lot of fun that borders on moving, carefully made, and worth a repeat viewing for those who thought it empty "high concept" fluff.

Cheers,

Bambi B
