"The Music Man"

In a brief clip that opens the DVD Special Edition, Shirley Jones tells of her extreme desire to get the film role as Marion, River City's head librarian and the love interest of flim flam music salesman Rober Preston, reprising his once in a career stage appearence as Gregory, the Music man pasing under rubric of Harold Hill. Paul Ford, Hermione Gindold, Buddy Hacket, and a very young Ron(ny) Hoiward also have featured parts. Made at a time when movie musicals had reached a low point, the film is very close to the stage adaptaion, merely opening up the dance venues and adding a couple of new Meredith Wilson songs. In the DVD's five channel mix everyone sounds like they are singing indoors whereever they are. Great choreography, songs, and dancing. Anamorphic widescreen and the aforementioned 5.1 sound track. Skinpy extras, not a concern to me.
