This off-beat little futuristic gem is by Thomas Vinterberg (Festen) with a nice cast including Joaquim Phoenix, Claire Danes (excellent!) & Sean Penn.
A paranoic thriller (?) about a world famous skater (Danes) who wants to throw in the towel but her mysterious, mob-like management won't let her until her clones are trained, who asks her estranged husband (Phoenix) to help her escape.
Penn plays Phoenix's older polish writer brother, doomed to fly the skies in a plane during a future where, every year, water world wide freezes for 2 minutes, people are dying of a mysterious heart disease in the streets and there are cult people flying in the skies, literally, in crumbling Uganda.
By no means perfect (a Lynch rip-off?) but weird enough to keep you going and some very evocative shots of New York made to looking menacingly 'cold'.
