"The Majestic"

Although Jim Carey stars in it this is not a typical Jim Carey movie, probably why I like it so much. He is a screenwriter in the HUAC witch hunt days and is accused of being a communist, resulting in the canceling of a movie based on his first sold script.. He flees Hollywood and has a freak accident on a bridge, resulting in amnesia. He is discovered and brought to a nearby coastal town where theater owner Martin Landau comes to believe that Carey is his missing son, a decorated hero. Soon the whole town believes him to be Landau's son as well, because the town lost many of its young men in the war and needs healing. Carey takes up with the girlfriend of the son and convinces Landau to refurbish and reopen the theater, which is called The Majestic. Then the FBI comes to town to further investiagte Carey and his secret is exposed. But a happy ending ensues. This one went nowhere at the box office but I like it very much and have seen it 3-4 times.
