"Lost Boys of Sudan"

The twenty year Sudanese civil war produced 20,000 homeless boys whose fathers were shot and whose mothers and sisters were tortured and raped. Eventually the United States took in 4000 of them, using agencies like the YMCA. This documentary film traces the first year of the boys' adjustment in two cites, Houston and Kansas City, Kansas. They have to learn or improve on their English, use houshold appliances new to them, get educated or and/or get a job. I was struck by the boyant optimism and good humor of the boys the film focuses on, despite all they had been through. Winner of many awards and highly recommended.
