I dug out my Criterion CAV laserdisc of this because our book/film group will be discussing it at our next meeting. This time around I noticed director Nichols learned use of the widescreen camera where emotional space netween characters is emphasized by having them on opposite sides of the 2.4/1 Panavison screen. I also learned that Shelley Winters was the original pick for Mrs. Robinson but thankfully Anne Bancroft got it as she is perfectly cast. The film has aged well and is still effective. The suburban phoniness is a bit over the top but not annoying.And what ever happened to Katerine Ross?
