A few months ago I posted a brief review on this movie. To summarize, I only made it though the first 30 minutes as I thought it was pretty weak. Well, yesterday I decided to give it another try and I managed to get through the entire thing. Verdict? I still think Spartan is a bit of a dud.
While Val Kilmer did a pretty good job in the lead, the plot had too many holes for me. (For example, the "coincidental" presence of the Swedish newsteam at the airport - c'mon!) And the dialog was just a bit too "clever" in too many places - it seemed forced. On a positive note, I did like the generous amount of suspense and many of the twists/turns in the story line were unexpected. But overall, the addition of too many implausible scenerios and the self conscious dialog left me disappointed.
