Two sisters, Christine and Lea, working as maids become incestuously involved as the older sister (Christine) becomes more paranoid and schizophrenic culminating in an audacious murder that captures the attention of all France. This is a beautifully filmed work that focuses on Christine and her troubled relationship with her mother and those around her. She takes solace in the company of her youngest sister which eventually leads to lust and unbridled desire.
Sylvie Testud plays Christine and has a way, as French women can, of making ugly both attractive and desirable. Even though the movie is about their mundane existence it is punctuated by highly erotic encounters between the sisters which can fog a monocle or two.
Enjoyable and worth a view.
