Review: Zathura

Saw it tonight at the AMC Forum 30 theater.

Pretty good kids-friendly movie. I saw it with my wife and her 11 year old brother, who really liked it a lot, and so did most of the kids in the theater, so the kids vote seems to be thumbs up.

The few actors do a pretty good job. The kids aren't freaking out every ten seconds, they seem to take all the wierdness mostly in stride, which keeps the annoying factor down. It's pretty unpredictable, you never know what kind of obstacle or alien the game will dish out next. There's quite a bit of dynamics between the brothers playing the game, but it never impedes the plot or slows the movie down much.

I may be biased toward the movie, however, because the house it's set in is pretty much my dream house. It's a perfect example of a beautiful California bungalow, with matching arts and crafts style pottery and furniture. Creepy haunted boardgame aside, I'd buy it in a second.

Overall rating: 75/100, (where 100 is a perfect movie) not bad at all.
