Someone called the Tiptoes "A misunderstood American masterpiece." And I agree.
The film has range of emotions and human warmth completely uncommon in a modern American film. And not just American film - it is up there with good films anywhere. And Gary Oldman's performance as a dwarf is simply amazing.
