I started watching ER now and then with my wife a few years ago, and we stopped watching after it's downfall into soap opera medocrity soon after. I just didn't care about any of the characters.Now we watch House which, though can be equally as cheesy and soap opera-ish, at least has an interesting and coherent story, and the characters are fun to watch.
Favorite line so far:
Patient- "Oh my god, it's stomach cancer, isn't it!?!"
House - "Well, it's a special kind of cancer, it'll get worse and worse for about eight months, then it'll leave your body and get very noisy. Then you'll grow attached to it, buy cute clothes and throw parties for it. After that it'll just eat away at your money instead of your body."
