The hype for "The Bone Collector" compares it to cerebral serial killer thrillers (there's an oxymoron in there somewhere) "Silence of the Lambs" and "Seven". It ain't even close. It is very clear who the perpetrator is leaving the clues for, but the supposedly brilliant target and other police seem to be oblivious and never end up putting it together to identify a suspect. Instead, we are supposed to be engaged in the growing relationship between a novice investigator (Angeline Jolie, with major lippage--schwing!) serving as the eyes for her quadriplegic mentor (Denzel Washington). This is a very predictable film and the staged crimes do not shock or surprise.
By comparison, I showed "Ravenous" to guests last night and the scares and surprises clearly left their mark (trying to remove urine stains from sofa).
