Yeah, I saw the movie first on DVD and they have an interview with the author as an extra feature, so I thought the book would be a decent read. It is academic and dry compared to the melodrama of the film and I doubt that Veronica Franco's day in court was as compellingly triumphant in the film. But the book gives a lot of insight into the politics of the time and really comes down on Oliver Platt's character very hard (a whore for the Church). Still, Franco was one hell of a writer and a fascinating woman. Contrast that to Monica Lewinsky's autobiography (about half a paragraph is probably enough). I was told by my nephew's girlfriend that they showed the movie in her Women's Studies class at Berkeley.

Oh God, I'm turning into Phil Donahue. Testosterone, please?
